Your smartphone's hidden functions

You may be familiar with the main functions of your smartphone, but there are some under-used features that are often overlooked, but which come in very handy on a day-to-day basis. Check out these tips for getting the most out of your smartphone!

Some of these features may not be available on older devices or OS versions.

1. Text recognition on photos
   You can extract text from an image with ‘Live Text’ on iPhone or ‘Google Lens’ on Android to easily copy and share text.

   • iOS: Long press on the image to copy the text.

   • Android: Use Google Lens in Google Photos or the Google app.

2. Concentration and screen time management
   To help you concentrate better, activate the concentration modes that filter notifications.

   • iOS: Settings → Screen Time → Concentration Mode.

   • Android: Settings → Digital well-being
      

3. One-handed mode
   Simplify typing by activating one-handed mode.

   • iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Easy Access.

   • Android: Settings → Accessibility → Ergonomics mode.
      

4. Smart folders
   Group your apps into folders for quick access.

   • iOS: Drag one app onto another to create a folder.

   • Android: Similar procedure with a custom name.
      

5. Wi-Fi telephony
   Use Wi-Fi to make calls, ideal when mobile coverage is poor or you're abroad!

   • iOS: Settings → Cellular data → Wi-Fi calls.

   • Android: Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi Calls.
      

6. Customise your calls
   Assign different ringtones to each contact to quickly identify your caller.

   • iOS and Android: Select the contact and customise the ringtone.
      

7. Idle mode
   Program your phone to go into night mode automatically: silent, notifications disabled.

   • iOS: Clock → Sleep hours.

   • Android: Digital well-being → Sleep mode.
