For Clara Moraru, we are always stronger together

Daniela Clara Moraru has entrepreneurship ingrained in her. She discovered Luxembourg in 1998, where she initiated multiple projects in the field of language learning and in highlighting inspiring female figures. Never short of innovative ideas, she has been committed since 2004 to promoting and supporting women leaders, while also defending the interests of independent workers.

The phrase "nothing is impossible" suits her perfectly. Clara Moraru had her first entrepreneurial experiences in her home country, Romania, where she opened a restaurant and then a travel agency. Through bilateral projects between Romania and the Grand Duchy, such as "Maison de Luxembourg à Sibiu" or "The Luxembourgish Language in Transylvania", she built ties with Luxembourg.

Innovative ideas

On a national scale, she is best known as the head of Languages.lu, a continuing education institute mainly focused on language learning. Since the early 2000s, Languages.lu has stood out as a digital pioneer.
"Languages.lu initially targeted the English-speaking population of Luxembourg, recalls Daniela Clara Moraru. At the time, we were the first to offer an online platform for Luxembourgish courses, allowing clients who worked abroad most of the time to acquire Luxembourgish nationality. It was revolutionary in 2004."

Using the skills acquired during her MBA, she innovates in several ways, particularly by creating nine educational resources in the form of fun and interactive games, accompanied by audio materials, as well as the first mobile application for learning Luxembourgish. In recognition of her significant contribution to the promotion of Luxembourgish, she was awarded the prestigious “Dicks-Rodange-Lentz” medal in 2023. At the end of 2024, she also received the “Innovative Teaching Award” from the European Commission, a great acknowledgment during the 21st anniversary of Languages.lu.

Supporting diversity and equality

This serial entrepreneur exemplifies the importance of supporting diverse audiences to promote equality. She has initiated numerous projects in favor of women.

"To undertake, one certainly needs skills, but above all a vision, a good strategy, and a lot of perseverance. My primary motivation as an entrepreneur has never been to generate profit, but to have a social impact. Over time, my activities generated profits, allowing me to fund bold projects such as the social initiative Inspiring Wo-Men, explains Daniela Clara Moraru. This included publishing magazines and two books highlighting inspiring female figures in Luxembourg, organizing more than 100 conferences, and presenting the Inspiring Woman of the Year, Inspiring Man of the Year, and Top Company for Gender Equality awards."

She also initiated the creation of the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs in 2004 and Women Leaders of Luxembourg in 2007.

"It was essential for me to make the voices of women leaders in Luxembourg better heard, to value and give visibility to role models to inspire others," emphasizes Clara Moraru. For her contribution to gender equality and the promotion of women in the business world, she was recognized in 2013 as one of the "Women Inspiring Europe", the only one from Luxembourg, by the European Institute for Gender Equality.

Amplifying the voice of independent workers

The life of an entrepreneur is undoubtedly filled with ups and downs. The health crisis was a particularly challenging period for Clara Moraru’s businesses and, more generally, for independent workers.

"Luxembourg is the only country in the EU where independent workers did not receive replacement income. To better defend the interests of independent workers in the future, we created a union organization: The Union of Independents, explains Clara Moraru."

Through this initiative, the serial entrepreneur, who has been politically active for a decade to promote better representation of foreigners and new Luxembourgers in elections, seeks to once again demonstrate that we are stronger when we are united around a common cause.

"Launched in 2024, The Union of Independents currently has around 1,700 members. The goal is to develop a support community for independent workers, which, like all unions, offers various services, such as legal or tax advice, to support them in their procedures and defend their interests more effectively, she continues."

Facilitating independent workers’ procedures with POST and DEEP

In recent years, independent workers have faced growing difficulties in opening a business bank account.

"To support them, we are in discussions with POST Finance, which provides universal banking services, to facilitate the establishment of independent workers and allow them to launch their businesses," comments the president of The Union of Independents. "We want to find solutions to overcome the obstacles faced by independent workers and support their entrepreneurial journey."

Opening a bank account is just the first stepPOST, through its subsidiary DEEP, also meets the connectivity and IT service needs of independent workers, just like Clara Moraru.

"Since I arrived in Luxembourg, DEEP has supported me as a service provider, ensuring Internet connectivity and mobile telephony services that have always met my requirements, she declares. These services have undeniably contributed to her growth, allowing her to innovate, learn, and bring people together."
