Always finding new ways to instil trust in our users - DEEP
Pierre Van Wambeke turned to DEEP’s secure cloud to provide his digital safe deposit box service, SeeZam. The company then became first to sign up to the CYBERSCORE initiative with the aim of certifying its level of security and improving its cybersecurity practices. Not only that, SeeZam is also the first subscriber to CYBER VAULT, which creates a secure offline backup of its users’ digital assets.
“Above all, what we offer is trust,” explains Pierre Van Wambeke, founder and CEO of SeeZam. “Our virtual safe deposit box service® guarantees that the documents and information that users store can only be accessed by them.” Van Wambeke launched SeeZam in 2009, turning a passion project into an innovative service to meet a wide range of needs. The SeeZam digital safe deposit box makes it easy to store and share sensitive documents such as employment contracts and payslips. It guarantees the long-term protection of valuable documents. “For several months now, SeeZam has been responding to new regulatory requirements aimed at providing better protection for whistleblowers and victims of harassment by opening up a reporting channel that guarantees absolute confidentiality”, says the CEO.
High-security digital safe deposit boxes
SeeZam uses military-grade encryption keys. The company takes advantage of the legal framework in Luxembourg, under which service providers do not have to decrypt users’ data, even if requested to do so by the authorities. “Not even our team can access the information deposited in the safes”, explains Van Wambeke. Over the last 15 years, as society has become increasingly aware of the challenges of data security and preservation, SeeZam’s business has seen steady growth. “Today, we are a team of five. Since our launch, we have written more than 800,000 lines of code to instil trust in our users and offer a unique product”, says the CEO.
Ready for anything
SeeZam uses DEEP’s Luxembourg-based secure cloud as its service provider. “Our partnership with the POST Group is key to strengthening our offering”, explains Van Wambeke. “Over the years, we have worked to guarantee high availability and robust security within our environment. Central to this is ensuring geo-redundancy from Luxembourg so we are can prepare for any eventuality.”
With this in mind, SeeZam recently became the first to subscribe to the Cyber Vault. Through this service, DEEP backs up customers’ digital assets and stores them offline, separate from its own environment. “This kind of service deepens the trust between us and our customers. In addition to being able to restore data quickly in the event of a crisis, we also benefit from the POST Group’s cybersecurity expertise thanks to its Security Operations Centre (SOC), helping to detect any anomalies in the backed-up data. It’s an additional safeguard that keep the data resilient against all kinds of threats, both internal and external”, continued Van Wambeke, mindful of the failures suffered by major hosting service providers.
First company with CYBERSCORE certification
Information security is at the heart of SeeZam’s business; however, ISO certification procedures in this area can be inadequate, cumbersome and costly for small companies. SeeZam was one of the first to adopt the CYBERSCORE approach, offered by DEEP in collaboration with LUXCONTROL. “Our clients are major players with ever more specific questions about the challenges of safeguarding data. Certification for each one requires answering many questions and providing a whole host of documents. But certification processes ought to make our lives easier by providing everyone involved with guarantees about the data security measures taken”, comments Van Wambeke. “This is where CYBERSCORE really helps. Users answer a series of questions relating to applicable security standards, which provides an initial assessment of the security practices and measures in place On the basis of the recommendations made, we can enhance our security posture with a view to gaining independent certification.” SeeZam is set to be the first Luxembourg company to obtain CYBERSCORE certification from LUXCONTROL.

A new app
SeeZam’s long-standing partnership with DEEP allows it to constantly explore new ways of improving the security of its service in order to strengthen the trust of its customers. The company is built on solid foundations that allow it to continue innovating. “In September, SeeZam will be launching a new mobile app – SeeZam Lite – to improve the experience of our users who wish to deposit or view personal documents in their safe”, explains Van Wambeke. All, of course, with the utmost security guaranteed.
